A motion to strike reaches defects in a pleading that are not subject to demurrer. For instance, the claim that a pleading fails to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action, which is a ground for a general demurrer, is generally not a proper ground for a motion to strike. The motion to strike can also be used to strike an entire cause of action or “pleading,” including complaints, cross-complaints, answers and demurrers.”
