Mabel Walker Willebrandt was appointed U.S. Assistant Attorney General by President Warren G. Harding in 1921, becoming the second woman to hold such a position. During Prohibition, she was responsible for enforcing the Volstead Act, which led to a wide range of legal challenges. Willebrandt was instrumental in fighting bootlegging and illegal alcohol production, which required both legal strategy and strong political advocacy.

In addition to her work during Prohibition, Willebrandt was a leading advocate for women in law and a pioneer for women in high-level governmental roles. Her tenure helped shape federal law enforcement strategies, and her advocacy for equal opportunities for women in law opened doors for future generations. She is remembered as a pioneering figure in both the legal and political arenas.
