Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, served from 1829 to 1837. Jackson was a populist who championed the cause of the “common man” and expanded suffrage to all white males, regardless of property ownership. His presidency was marked by a strong belief in the power of the executive branch and the principle of majority rule. Jackson is also known for his forceful handling of the Nullification Crisis, where he opposed South Carolina’s attempt to nullify federal tariffs.

Jackson’s most controversial action was his policy of Indian removal, which led to the forced relocation of Native American tribes, known as the Trail of Tears. Despite this, he remains a highly influential figure in American politics, particularly for his role in shaping the Democratic Party and his vision of a stronger, more direct democracy.
