
Elena Rios, born in 1957, is a prominent physician and public health advocate who has dedicated her career to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in underserved Latino and immigrant communities. Raised in a family with Mexican roots, Rios became deeply aware of the challenges facing minority communities in the U.S., especially in the healthcare system. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, Davis, and later became involved in advocacy for health equity, working with various organizations to promote access to quality care for all, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. As president and CEO of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), Rios played a pivotal role in advocating for policies to improve healthcare access and increase Latino representation in the medical field.
