“Joint custody means joint physical custody and joint legal custody. FC 3002.
Legal custody is the right to make decisions regarding the health, education and welfare of the children.
Sole legal custody occurs when one parent has the right and the responsibility to make the decisions regarding the health, education and welfare of a child.
Joint legal custody means that both parents share the right and the responsibility to make the decisions relating to the health, education and welfare of a child.
Sole physical custody means a child resides with and is under the supervision of one parent, subject to the power of the court to order visitation. FC 3007. If a parent has sole physical custody, then the children live primarily with that parent and the other parent has visitation rights.
Joint physical custody means that each parent has significant periods of physical custody. Joint physical custody must be shared by the parents in such a way so as to assure a child of frequent and continuing contact with both parents, subject to FC 3011 & 3020. FC 3004.”
