Gerald Ford, the 38th President, served from 1974 to 1977. Ford became president after Richard Nixon’s resignation in the wake of the Watergate scandal. Ford’s most controversial decision was granting Nixon a full pardon for any crimes he may have committed while in office. While this move was highly unpopular at the time, Ford believed it was necessary to help the country heal and move forward.

Ford’s presidency was marked by efforts to combat inflation and address economic difficulties, including a severe recession. His foreign policy was focused on maintaining détente with the Soviet Union and dealing with the ongoing Cold War challenges. Though his presidency was brief, Ford is remembered for his integrity and his attempt to restore trust in the presidency following the Watergate crisis.
