Winona LaDuke, an Ojibwe activist, environmentalist, and writer, was born on August 18, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, but grew up on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota. LaDuke is a passionate advocate for Native American rights, environmental justice, and sustainable development. She gained national recognition for her work on Indigenous land rights, particularly her efforts to protect natural resources from exploitation. LaDuke co-founded the organization Honor the Earth, which focuses on environmental activism and promoting Indigenous solutions to ecological problems, such as the impacts of mining, oil pipelines, and climate change on Native lands.
