“The California supreme court has original jurisdiction in some limited matters and appellate jurisdiction when: (1) a judgment of death has been pronounced; (2) the court transfers a case to itself from the court of appeal; or (3) the court reviews a decision of the court of appeal. The Supreme Court may review all or part of any decision of a court of appeal. Review may be granted upon petition to the court or on the court’s own motion.”
